Ortigia is a small Italian soap & scent company founded in Sicily.

This luxurious range of soaps, scents, creams, candles & lotions are formulated using natural products indigenous to Sicily & inspired by the aesthetics, colours & scents of Italy’s most historic and tropical region.

The perfumes are distilled from the flowers of Sicily by master perfumer, Lorenzo Villoresi.

The base of all the products is natural perfume and natural ingredients: olive oil, vegetable glycerine & organic colours. No sls, nickel or silicone; products are not tested on animals. 

The name Ortigia comes from the small island that lies at the edge of the ancient, fortified city of Siracusa, on Sicily’s southeastern coast. The streets of Ortigia are crumbling baroque façades of great splendour looking out on 3 sides to the sea. 

All Ortigia products are made by small family companies who pride themselves on the quality of their products. The highly decorative packaging draws on exotic Sicilian images and colours.

The discovery of an old colour dictionary in a second hand shop in London, England re-launched this long forgotten brand, first established in 1931. A treasure trove of colour and steeped in history, the book was used to standardize colours across the British Empire until the late 1950s. The names are derived and inspired from nature, flora & fauna, as well as semi-precious stones and spices.

Scanned and digitalized, these colours and names formed the foundation of British Colour Standard candles. Derived exclusively from ethically sourced palm oil, the hard Stearin wax is coloured with responsibly sourced dyes to ensure the brand's eco provenance. Colours are matched to archival BCS swatches The unscented dinner candles have 100% cotton wicks, and burn very slowly with a tall, clean flame. Virtually drip-free, with no smoking or sooting, they will not wilt in warm ambient temperatures.
